Networking

Local, area, and national meetings provide a relaxed and supportive setting for ASWA members to share information, gain business contacts, and engage in networking, giving members access to a pool of peers ready and willing to serve as role models, mentors, teachers, and friends. The national and chapter newsletters provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, updates on members’ career advancements, industry trends, and national and local job openings. ASWA contacts are invaluable to members planning to relocate or start a job search.

Education

Low-cost, high-quality CPE credits, approved by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, at local, area, and national meetings and conferences keep members up to date on the latest industry developments and enhance their technical knowledge and abilities. The New Orleans chapter offers 18 hours of continuing professional education each year through monthly meetings and seminars.

Leadership and Management Skills Development

Numerous opportunities to serve in leadership positions offer members the chance to enhance communication, management, organization, and teamwork skills. ASWA provides continual professional growth formally through programs such as the annual conferences and informally through chapter involvement on any of the nine committees or by serving as one of the four officers. Each June at the Officer Installation luncheon the Patricia M. Harrison, Ph.D., CPA Member of the Year Award is given to recognize a member’s outstanding service to ASWA.
